Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Pushing Through Because Of “Fan Affection”

Edge of Tomorrow may have received critical acclaim however while most fans and critics praised Doug Liman's film adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's light novel All You Need Is Kill, the film didn't do so well at the box office, raking in a measly $370,541 worldwide.

Though the numbers aren't enough to ensure a sequel, Liman says that Edge of Tomorrow 2 is actually happening because of fans affection for the original film.

In an interview with the Flickering Myth, Liman decided to discuss the reasons why he's started work on a sequel for Edge of Tomorrow despite being averse towards sequels.

"I was not going to make a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, I'm not really interested in sequels, I'm interested in trying new things, new places. But we came up with an idea for a sequel that's so shockingly revolutionary for how a sequel would get made, and it's so fresh and it's such a fun story. We only even started talking about a sequel because there was so much fan affection for the movie, that people started asking us about a sequel. There was so much love for the film. It used to be that people come up to me and talked to me about The Bourne Identity. But Edge of Tomorrow is the one that people constantly come up and talk to me about. There's so much affection for the movie we at least owe looking at it to see if there's an idea for a sequel and we came an idea that I can't stop talking about."

Though he does say that he isn't a sequel person, Liman's ideas for Edge of Tomorrow 2 certainly has him excited, promising fans that the movie will help them understand the first film's ending and provide a better arc for Cruise's character.

There's no release date for Edge of Tomorrow 2 just yet but we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we get word.
