Eddie Redmayne Talks the Role of Leta Lestrange in Fantastic Beasts 2

The first Fantastic Beasts movie gave us a teaser when they showed a picture of Zoe Kravitz in Newt's briefcase, and it was revealed that she would be playing Leta Lestrange. Eddie Redmayne talks about Leta's role in the sequel, and her special connection with Newt.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Redmayne explains:

"Leta, it's one of those relationships where there was definitely great love there… But was it ever a full-blown relationship? I don't know. But certainly, she's somebody who has touched him hugely. At the beginning of this film you realize she's now in a relationship with Newt's brother so, of course, that comes with great complications."

The sequel will also be introducing us to Theseus Scamander, who is Newt's older brother. In this world, he's a highly respected Auror. We don't know where he stands with Newt for now, so we'll just have to wait for the movie to find out.

If you read up on the Potter lore, you'll know that Newt ends up marrying Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), so at least we can tell that he won't end up with Lestrange at all. What we have yet to know, however, is Lestrange's relationship with Newt, and why Newt keeps a picture of her in his briefacase.

Hopefully all questions will be answered come the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald this Nov. 16.
