Early Screening Reactions To Aquaman Compare It To A Film From Phase 1 Of The MCU

Aquaman might not be set to premiere till December this year, but it looks like Warner Brothers has already screened Jason Momoa's very first standalone movie as Arthur Curry to early test audiences and the first reactions to the DC Extended Universe have made their way online. Unfortunately, while viewers like the movie, it looks like they didn't like it enough.

According to Screen Rant, Warner Brothers held an early test screening in San Fernando Valley, California and reactions to the film have been tepid. Christopher Marc from Omega Underground, Steven Weintraub from Collider, and KC Walsh from GWW posted their response to the early Aquaman screening on Twitter, and while Walsh thinks that the film feels a whole lot like an MCU Phase 1 film, it isn't mind-blowingly good.

The tepid response to Aquaman can be rather worrying. After all, DCEU fans have been looking for a win after Justice League. The comparison to the MCU is also another concern. Sure, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League might not have done so well with fans and critics, but they did steer clear of the style of the MCU.

Of course, this is one of the very first Aquaman screenings that Warner Brothers has held, so there's still a chance that Aquaman could get better. Let's just wait and see.

Aquaman swims its way to cinemas on December 21, 2018.
