E3 2016: Elder Scrolls VI Officially in Development

At E3 2016, Besthesda revealed the remaster of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim coming this Fall, but sadly, they didn't reveal any footage or concrete details about Elder Scrolls VI. Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Game Studio, hasconfirmed that development for Elder Scrolls VI is underway, but don't expect it to come anytime soon, because from the sounds of it, it will probably take them years to complete what may be their most ambitious project yet.

On a segment of Youtube Live at E3, Howard was asked about Elder Scrolls VI, and here's what he said:

"I mean that's kind of like the elephant in the room, always, when we talk about anything, and you know, I think it's good in these moments to tell our fans yes, of course we are, you know, it's something we love but it is, I have to be careful what I say, it's a very long way off.

I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, ‘That sounds like you don't even have the technology. How long is that going to take?' So it is something that's going to take a lot of time, what we have in mind for that game, and we actually have two other large projects we're also doing that are bigger than anything we've done. People will probably hear about those even before Elder Scrolls 6, and that'll make sense many years from now."

When Howard was asked about Bethesda's concrete vision for Elder Scrolls VI, he said:

"We think very long term. We're not a developer that's going to rush something like this out. Any of our games. When you think about what is the future of that kind of game, we have a pretty good idea of what that's going to be, and it's just going to take technology and time we don't necessarily have right now."

It's understandable that a role-playing game of this scale would take years to complete. Hell, Final Fantasy XV took 10 years to complete, and we're finally getting it this coming September. The news may upset fans who are super excited about the next Elder Scrolls installment but what Howard said assures us that the developers at Bethesda is doing everything they could to give us the best possible Elder Scrolls we can experience, as they have in the previous installments.
