Duncan Jones' long-awaited sci-fi film Mute is finally coming, and now, it has an official release date.

Jones, who's been developing this film for the past 12 years, announced the Netflix release date on Twitter: February 23, 2018. He also released a gif of footage from the film featuring Alexander Skarsgard. The film will also feature Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux as surgeons.

Mute is said to be a homage to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner as well as a "spiritual sequel" to Jones' film Moon.

Synopsis:

Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo's search for her takes him deep into the city's seedy underbelly. A pair of wise-cracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.on Netflix.

The premise sounds exciting. The previous synopsis for mute calls the city "A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca."

It looks like February is going to be a great month for sci-fi enthusiasts. We're getting Mute and Altered Carbon on Netflix. It's just strange that we haven't seen a trailer for Mute yet.
