Drive Director Nicolas Winding Refn Wants to Do a Batgirl Movie

Nicolas Winding Refn, director of Drive and Bronson, revealed he was interested in doing a Batgirl film in an interview with Business Insider. He stated that he had always wanted to do a Wonder Woman movie. However, the directorial job for the upcoming 2017 Wonder Woman film was given to Patty Jenkins.

But Refn still has an interest in making a superhero film. "God, I would love to make one, it would probably be great fun," he said in the interview. "I just don't know when it's going to happen. I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity."

When asked what he'd like to do now that the Wonder Woman movie has been taken, Refn mused "What ones are left?" Then he landed on an idea. "You know the one I want to do? I want to make Batgirl. Let's get Warner working on it."

Refn's film-making tends to be moody and dark, so it might well suit a Gotham-based film. Judging from his choices, Refn clearly has an interest in DC Comics superheroines. His upcoming movie, The Neon Demon, has a female lead, though it focuses on a young woman in the fashion industry rather than superhero.

I personally just want DC to do a Batgirl movie and I don't care who directs it as long as they do a good job. Would you like to see a Batgirl movie? Do you think Nivolas Winding Refn would be a good fit for a director?
