Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power Just Showed Its Most Shocking Death

In the latest episode of Dragon Ball Super, the four remaining members of Universe 7 teamed up against Jiren in the last few minutes of the show's Tournament of Power, and as expected, not of them come close to beating the overpowered Universe 11 Pride Trooper. Despite their efforts and teamwork, Jiren continues to be unstoppable, and one of them ends up sacrificing himself to save his comrades.

That Universe 7 fighter is Android 17. When Jiren unleashed a powerful attack on the Universe 7 warriors, Android 17 used all his power to create an ultimate barrier to protect Goku and Vegeta from Jiren's devastating attack. Of course, to be able to do that, he had to self-destruct himself, so Jiren wasn't penalized for Android 17's death since it was technically not Jiren who killed him. This is the most epic send-off we've seen in the Tournament of Power. Android 17 has been an MVP in the fighting competition, lasting longer than fans expected, and his elimination shocked fans who admire the character.

Of course, death has almost lost its meaning in the Dragon Ball franchise. Characters don't really stay dead in the universe of Dragon Ball. They come back somehow and with the Super Dragon Balls as the prize for the Tournament of Power winner, fans are expecting that all the Universes that were erased will be brought back to life, and that includes Android 17.

Dragon Ball Super is set to air on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami still airs the English dub of Dragon Ball Super on Adult Swim Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. It's also available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon.
