Dragon Ball Super Will Lose Its Japanese Time Slot Soon

Dragon Ball Super is expected to conclude its Universal Survival arc this March, and many fans were speculating the possibility of its hiatus following the end of the Tournament of Power. Well, it looks like that's exactly what will happen later this year. According to recent reports in Japan, Dragon Ball Super will lose its time slot when a new anime will replace it this April.

The news came from a Japanese newspaper that translator Todd Blankenship shared on his Twitter page. The newspaper confirmed Gegege no Kitaro is set to take over Dragon Ball Super's 9 a.m. time slot starting April 1.

According to Fuji TV, it has no plans to continue broadcasting new episodes of Dragon Ball Super after its current saga ends this March since "it's not like the series is over."

Of course, many fans are already expressing how upset they are online, but the show probably needs a hiatus to give animators more time to develop its next saga. Since a new Dragon Ball film is expected to release this December, it's possible that the show's animators are shifting their focus to work on that instead before creating new material for the series. This would also help give the manga some time to catch up to the anime.

Or, since the date that the show will lose is time slot is April 1, Toei Animation may be setting up a big April's Fools joke. I really hope it turns out that way because I don't want to see Dragon Ball Super end this year.

Dragon Ball Super is set to air on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami still airs the English dub of Dragon Ball Super on Adult Swim Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. It's also available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon.
