While the trailer for the next Dragon Ball Super episode focuses on Goku and Vegeta's brawl against Jiren, let's not forget that there's still one Universe 7 fighter still in the Tournament of Power: Frieza. Some fans still believe that the most sinister member of Universe 7 has a greater purpose in the tournament, and many are speculating that he will eventually betray Universe 7 and make his wish with the Super Dragon Balls if they ever win the whole competition.
However, a Redditor shared a different theory, claiming that Frieza's presence in the tournament will make Jiren realize and respect Goku after finding out their history. You can read the whole theory below:
The real reason why Freeza is in the tournament

This makes a lot of sense, especially after learning about Jiren's backstory. Even though his past is considered to be a cliche, there's a lot more to his character than what many seem to have realized. We already talked about how Jiren is a foil to Goku's character or the possibility that he might surprise everyone in the tournament. Seeing Frieza being a foil to the evil entity in Jiren's past would make a deep contrast that could possibly change Jiren perspective just like how Gaara's heart was changed after fighting Naruto.
Dragon Ball Super is set to air on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami still airs the English dub of Dragon Ball Super on Adult Swim Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. It's also available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon.
