A lot of Game of Thrones fans definitely love the fact that the wildling Tormund Giantsbane has a thing for Brienne of Tarth, and they've been wondering if there's a potential romance somewhere down the line. Sadly, we can't expect Tormund x Brienne action in the upcoming season of GoT.
Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) told Newsweek:
It was a throwaway moment in the script ("I think it read, ‘Tormund hasn't seen a woman like her before,'" Christie says), but Hivju (Tormund) made the most of it. "I don't often laugh during filming," she says of the dinner table scene, in which Tormund sensuously attacks a chicken leg, his eyes locked on Brienne across the table. "That was really difficult. Because he is so intensely hilarious." But she answers my question of their future with a question of her own. "Do you think she actually likes him?" she asks. "No," I say. "Well, there you go!"
Any Game of Thrones fan will know that the closest thing that Brienne has had to a romance was her infatuation with Renly Baratheon, but with Renly gone (and also his being in love with Iron Fist), it's possible that Brienne is now harboring feelings for a one Jaime Lannister.
Personally, it also seems a bit out of character for Brienne to have any feelings for Tormund, and it's fun just to watch him flirt with her any chance he gets to see her. By some weird fluke, maybe the showrunners can give Tormund a love he deserves. Maybe Brienne has an equally tall sister? I don't know.
Game of Thrones season 7 premieres this Sunday, July 16 on HBO.
