Donald Glover Gives Up Eating Good Food For Role in Han Solo Spinoff

Last weekend, Community actor Donald Glover bagged two Golden Globe Awards for his comedy, Atlanta. Journalists congratulated Glover for the win then promptly moved on to the actor's next big stint as the younger version of the suave Lando Calrissian in Disney's upcoming Han Solo spinoff.

Speaking with Variety on the red carpet, Glover revealed how he'd always been a true blue fan of the Star Wars franchise. The Golden Globe winner was both shocked and excited when he learned he landed the part of Lando in the movie.

Now, a new report by the USA Today reveals a lot more about the role and the work he has to do to prepare for his part as Star Wars most notorious gambler.

"Not getting to eat anything enjoyable for the rest of my life," Glover told gathered press, to laughter. "Lando's a big deal to me. It was literally the first toy I ever got. When you have something that's kind of iconic ... where people pay attention to it, it's hard because you want to live up to the expectation. But all you can do is live up to your own. And Star Wars is really high."

Despite all the pressure, Glover's spirits remain high as he prepares to film Han Solo standalone with Alden Ehrenriech's version of Han Solo and Emilia Clarke's yet-to-be-named character.

"I really just want to have fun. The directors: (Christopher Miller and Phil Lord), they're amazing. I love the guy who is playing Han (Alden Ehrenreich). It's going to be a good time. It's going to be fun. I'm getting ready to just have fun with those guys."

With Glover's humor, wit and his appreciation for the Star Wars franchise, it seems like Disney's hit gold for Han Solo's Lando.

The Han Solo standalone premieres on the big screen on May 25, 2018.
