Doctor Doom Film Unaffected by Disney/Fox Merger, For Now

Fox has not made any good Fantastic Four films, so when a Doctor Doom solo spinoff was announced, fans weren't exactly excited. Doom was in all of those Fantastic Four movies and was presented horribly in them, especially in the most recent one. When Noah Hawley was eventually announced as the film's director, things started looking up, despite the tarnished reputation of Marvel's first family.

However, the film's status was seemingly left up in the air when Disney purchased Fox last month. Fans started getting worried about the various X-Men projects under Fox, along with this particular Fantastic Four spinoff. Thankfully, the film is still going to be made and we can only hope that it will be good.

During a TCA panel about Legion, Collider asked Hawley about the status of the Doctor Doom film. Here is what he had to say:

"I haven't had a single conversation yet about Doom in the context of the merger. On some level, we're still looking at a period of time – probably a year, at the least – for this whole thing to go through. Who knows, corporately, what conversations will be had, but certainly, until it goes through, it's not a legal thing. I don't know. I've been waiting for the phone to ring to see if anyone is gonna have an opinion. Otherwise, it's just business as usual for me."

Like Gambit and X-Force, it looks like the Doctor Doom film has survived the merger, at least for now. Howley has done a great job with FX's Legion and one can only hope he does this classic Marvel villain proud. It would also be great if he was eventually added to the MCU, though one has to wonder if the transition can be made.
