Disney's Live Action Cruella Movie Could Be A Period Piece Set In The 70s Punk Scene

After the success of live-action remakes like Beauty and the Beast and Maleficent, Disney is more confident than ever to pump out some more of these films. Guy Ritchie is working on a live-action Aladdin, and a new rumor has come out about the 101 Dalmatians spinoff, Cruella.

According to Omega Underground, the movie is set to be a period piece which will take place in 1979 London. What's more, the movie is said to have the UK punk scene as its backdrop with Cruella having connections with the Sex Pistols.

With all the live-action movies set in a fantasy world, I'm actually interested to see how Cruella fares if it's set in our reality. If it's the punk scene we're covering, I'd want it to be more adult and less kid-friendly. After all, every kid who's grown up with the 101Dalmatians cartoon is probably over the age of 25.

With some fans taking issue with the Maleficent turning one of Disney's more classic villains "synmpathetic," I have a feeling they're going to do the same with Cruella de Vil in this movie. My guess is we'll see her rise in the UK fashion scene, and the movie ends with Stone's character rebranding herself as "Cruella."

That's just my pitch, but I could see the movie going all sorts of directions.

We should take these rumors with a grain of salt for now. Hopefully Cruella gets an official release date within the year.
