Disney Will Release Fox X-Men Films After Acquisition, But There's A Catch

Disney's recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox could mean great things for the future X-Men films. However, fans might need to wait a bit longer before the studio is able to release these highly anticipated films.

It is important to point out that the deal between Disney and Fox is still being finalized at the moment. Unfortunately, this would mean that the possibility of the X-Men stepping in to help in Avengers 4 is just not happening. According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney might only be able to develop X-Men films starting 2022.

There are still several X-Men movies in Fox's roster. However, it looks like X-Men: Dark Phoenix, scheduled to premiere in February next year, will be the last mutant film that the studio will release.

There is a possibility that The New Mutants will be one of Disney's first X-Men projects after the negotiation is finalized. After all, Disney seems interested in the project, among other Fox movies.

People can rest assured that Fox has no plans of slowing down prior to the Disney merger. According to reports, the studio is still developing new films while waiting for the deal to come through. In addition to that, the studio seems greatly concerned with major downsizing once the merger is finalized.

Fans are undoubtedly hoping that the X-Men will show up to help in the battle against Thanos in Avengers 4. However, a merger of epic proportions would need time to be finalized and it is highly unlikely that the mutants will drop in to help the Avengers next year. Nevertheless, Disney is hoping to release any X-Men movies that will be completed or are already in production by the time the merger is confirmed.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to hit theaters on February 14, 2019. The New Mutants premiere has been pushed back to August 2, 2019.
