Disney May Be Planning to Make Your Star Wars Real-Life Experience Come True

Have you ever tried to wield an umbrella, a broomstick or even flashlights in the dark, pretending you're in a lightsaber fight with your siblings, friends, or even parent?

Star Wars fans, who may have held a life-long dream of becoming a Jedi or even a Sith, may be looking at a possible dream-come-true moment. This may be thanks to the patent that Disney has recently filed.

Spotted by WDWNT, the patent has this to say about what Disney plans for its lightsabers:

"An entertainment environment has a user with a faux light saber that interacts with a drone flying through the air or operated with hidden rods to appear as if its flying through the air. The faux light saber has LEDs attached thereto to provide IR light to the drone. As an LED is turned on, an invisible light sensor built into the drone captures an image of the field of view with a bright spot at the position of the activated LED. A visible light source built into the drone then projects light through particulate matter toward the faux light saber. As a result, the uses is provided with the illusion that the faux light saber has deflected a laser beam. Multiple LEDs can be activated in sequence at various times to give user the impression that the movement by the users of the faux light saber is deflecting multiple laser beams."

What this basically says is that the wielder of the lightsaber will be facing small drones within a confined space. From there, these drones will shoot out beams of light, which will then be read by the lightsaber's beams.

The end goal is to make it look like the lightsaber can deflect beams, even multiple ones, given that the project will make multiple LED activation possible.

Of course, as with any patents, this doesn't necessarily mean it will translate to a working project or device in the future. However, based on the patent description alone, this harks back to that training scene at the Jedi Temple, where Master Yoda trained a couple of younglings to use a drone, a lightsaber, and their version of virtual reality.

This alone would be a great firsthand experience. But imagine using the same technology, this time in an actual war, sith versus jedi, in different Star Wars settings.

It's a great accessory experience for the rumored Star Wars Lands headed to Disneyland. And it will definitely make any Star Wars fan dream come true.
