Disney Just Won The US Antitrust Approval For Its Fox Deal

It looks like the deal between Walt Disney and 21st Century Fox is moving closer and closer to completion.

Not only has the Mickey Mouse House outbid its main competitor Comcast in its attempt at acquiring the film and television assets being sold by 21st Century Fox, but Disney's also managed to clear one of the biggest hurdles of its merger – the US antitrust approval.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Department of Justice of America just approved the Disney Fox merger this morning, allowing the deal to obtain the approval of the US Antitrust.

There's a catch though – the Department of Justice only approves the acquisition if Disney decides to leave Fox's regional sports networks alone, citing concerns over monopolization. There's a lot of concern that Disney might be monopolizing the industry too much if it consolidates Fox Sports and ESPN, which Disney owns now.

Despite the provision, it seems like Disney's definitely winning the round, especially with the timeliness of the deal's regulatory clearance. It now seems very unlikely that Fox might consider other offers, however, according to the report, Comcast is still having a go, the company "now mulling its next steps, including teaming up with private equity investors in its pursuit of Fox assets." The company is also thinking of adding to its counteroffer, coming up to close to $90 billion.

Still, Fox has shown disinterest in Comcast's deal, making it more and more likely for Marvel fans to finally see the X-Men, Fantastic Four and other mutants making their way to the MCU.
