Disney Channel Developing A Hocus Pocus TV Movie

It looks like Disney has decided on making a movie based on Kenny Ortega's 1993 cult comedy horror fantasy film, Hocus Pocus.

Earlier this week, the co-writer of the original Hocus Pocus, Mick Gattis, went on an interview with Forbes to reveal that word had it a TV sequel to the movie was being developed for Disney.

Now, a new report by Deadline confirms these rumors, saying that the Mickey Mouse House really is working on a Hocus Pocus TV movie with a new cast and a new director in slate. However, the publication doesn't specify whether the upcoming TV movie is to be a sequel to the original Hocus Pocus, or whether the project is to be a reboot.

Starring Doug Jones, Bette Midler, and Sarah Jessica Parker, the original Hocus Pocus tells the story of three witches that were accidentally resurrected by a virgin teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts. Though the film wasn't a commercial or critical success when it was first released, the movie has gained a rather large cult following with annual airings on Disney Channel.

Here's the official synopsis of the original Hocus Pocus:

"After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches' book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal."

The new Hocus Pocus TV movie doesn't have a release date as of the moment, but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
