Did Magic: The Gathering Head Designer Just Confirm A New Merfolk Lord in Rivals of Ixalan?

The official previews for Rivals of Ixalan haven't started yet but at least we know now that the Merfolk tribe is probably getting more support in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set.

When a fan asked head designer Mark Rosewater if Rivals of Ixalan will introduce a new Merfolk lord to support the tribe, here's what he said on his Blogatog Tumblr page:

Maybe. : )
No, probably. : )

It would make sense that Wizards of the Coast would bring more support for the Ixalan tribes (Merfolk, Vampires, Dinosaurs, Pirates) in the new set since they don't have a strong presence in the current Standard metagame. I wouldn't be surprised if they introduce a new Merfolk Planeswalker in the set but we'll most likely see the Merfolk lord as a Legendary creature. They already confirmed that Silvergill Adept is being reprinted for Rivals of Ixalan so it looks like Merfolk tribal decks will be more playable in Standard format. Let's just hope they won't be overpowered.

What abilities do you think the new Merfolk lord will have?
