Back when Ben Affleck was still attached to direct the DCEU’s solo Batman movie, Joe Manganiello was heavily rumored to play the part of Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke. Now with Matt Reeves taking over the film, the old script has been scrapped, and it looks like Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has confirmed that Deathstroke won’t be any part of The Batman.

Collider asked Guggenheim about Deathstroke’s presence in Arrow season 6, to which Guggenheim answers:

"It was a function of… you know, DC [controls] these characters. We went through a period where DC was like, ‘We’ve got plans for Deathstroke that don’t include Arrow.’ That changed at the end of this year.”

By changes, Guggenheim could be alluding to the page one rewrite of the solo Batman movie. With Slade’s future in the DCEU on hold, the character is free to pop up anytime he can in Arrow.

For now, Matt Reeves has just come off of the success of War for the Planet of the Apes, and he’s probably working full-time on The Batman now. We still have no idea what kind of movie the standalone will be, but Reeves has made comments on making it a more noir movie which focuses more on the detective aspect of Batman—something like “a day in the life” of Batman.

For now, we’re just waiting on more updates on The Batman, but Warner Bros is obviously more focused on getting fans hyped for the upcoming Justice League which comes out Nov. 17.
