Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have announced that the Detective Pikachu movie, starring Deadpool'sRyan Reynolds, will be showing on May 10, 2019. This is definitely going to be one of the weirder family pictures that will hit theaters in 2019 and it is going up against some stiff competition.

Firstly, the movie will be showing a week after the fourth Avengers movie. Infinity War might be the most talked about superhero film right now, so there's no doubt that its sequel will get similar attention, if not more. While both films are targeting different audiences, one has to wonder why the studios would choose this date. Then again, Alvin and the Chipmunks went up against The Force Awakens, so anything is possible.

Detective Pikachu will also be showing a week before John Wick: Chapter Three but that might not be a problem. The John Wick series is mostly targeting adults and teenagers, so the family film shouldn't be too affected by the latest Keanu Reeves action film. It's still a bit of a battle but not as intimidating as taking on Infinity War.

There you have it, the Detective Pikachu movie has a release date. It will hit theaters on May 10, 2019. Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) will be writing the film, while Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) directing it.
