Destiny Gets $30 Level Boost Microtransaction

Bungie has apparently taken notes from World of Warcraft, and is now offering a paid level boost as a microtransaction in Destiny. The PlayStation Store lists the add-on for $30 dollars, which gives you an instant boost to level 25 for a Hunter, Titan, or Warlock class. It also comes with a Subclass Boost and Telemetries. This is similar to the free level boost that Destiny provided to players that bought The Taken King expansion.

Considering that $30 is more than the entire first Destiny expansion cost, it's insane to charge that much for a level boost that doesn't even take your character that close to the max level (40). It makes sense for some MMOs to offer things like level boosts, since it lets new players skip the hundreds of hours needed to catch up to the current content. But leveling up in Destiny has already been made easier, and it might take only 20 hours to reach the max level from level 1.

Hopefully, Bungie isn't moving in a pay-to-win direction for microtransactions, because I think the Destiny fan community would not be very happy about it. Things like instant level boosts devalue the hard work the veteran players have put in to power up their characters, and Bungie will have to be very careful not to offend that demographic moving forward.
