Death Note: Nat Wolff Made His Own Death Note To Prepare For The Role

One common complaint about Netflix's Death Note movie is the way it portrayed Light. Instead of making him a bored genius who thinks he knows what's best for the world, Light Turner comes across as an indecisive, easily angered brat. While it would be easy to judge actor Nat Wolff for his performance, it looks like he was preparing for a much darker character that would have been interesting.

During an interview with Screen Crush, Wolff revealed that he made his own Death Note and even listed the names of people he wanted to kill. At first he thought he wouldn't be able to do it, saying "You'd have to be a Psycho to do that." "But soon I made my own Death Note," he claimed, "I started writing and then it was just flowing off the pen more easily than you'd believe."

Apparently, it got so bad that he actually had to burn his notebook. To say it was an interesting way to method act is an understatement, considering that the notebook actually kills people in the movie and the source material. It's one of the more relatable elements of Death Note, since at some point everyone has wanted to punish all the killers and criminals in the world.

While his intense research can be commended, it doesn't make the film any better sadly. Still, it does shed some light to what the actors were thinking, and it's nice to know that some of them took this film seriously.

Death Note is streaming in Netflix now. According to the film's director, a sequel could happen if enough people watch the film.
