Death Note Light Up the New World Gets Official Trailer, Glimpse of Kira Worshipper’s Past

If you've been dying to know what's really going on in the trailers released for Death Note: Light Up The New World, then the newly released official subbed trailer will help.

The trailer basically sets the premise, where we see how the original story from 10 years ago was the main catalyst. Back then, Light clashed with L and brought a good amount of terror with him.

However, in the present, we see the people who are still affected by the incident. The investigator is the man who can't forget what had happened. Another, L's successor, is a man who inherited the will to fight. And finally, there's a third man whose life was saved, and this man is Kira's worshipper, Yuki.

As already known about the plot, there will be six Death Notes dropped on Earth, and from the looks of it, the three men are in pursuit of getting all six Death Notes. Interestingly, here's where the three men deviate once more. Tsukuru Mishima wants to seal and secure the Death Notes. Ryuzaki (Sousuke Ikematsu) wants to surpass L with the promise to note use the Death Note.

What intrigues me is Yuki's goal, which is supposedly to resurrect Kira. There's already been a teaser that Light is coming back in the movie. Is this related to Yuki's wish? We do hear the question of "Is Light alive?" asked twice. Mm, very foreboding.

The official trailer actually shows a few of the scenes and some hints that were seen in the newer video. In the shorter clip, we see a small exchange between Yuki Shien and Ryuk, the ever-creepy Shinigami that used to be Light's companion.

The audience is shown the scars on Yuki's back, and we learn that these are mementos from a past tragedy. The scars were made by a crazed man that killed Yuki's entire family. He was the only survivor of that incident, which happened 10 years ago.

In a translation from Anime News Network, Yuki also revealed that it was Kira who killed that murderer. This essentially what transforms Kira in Yuki's mind, from a normal human being to practically a kami (god).

I have to say, Yuki's actor, Masaki Suda passes as the evil-looking resident crazy fanatic—just look at that last scene and laugh. It's almost hard to believe that he'll also be playing megane-boy Shinpachi in the Gintama live-action. Impressive.

Death Note Light Up The New World will be out in Japan on Oct. 29.
