Deadpool Director Tim Miller Comments On Bailing On The Sequel And Taking Over Terminator 6

Tim Miller was the director behind one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, Deadpool, and he was supposed to return to the sequel. That plan didn't push through however, and now he's attached to work on another big franchise, Terminator. Speaking to THR, Miller comments about leaving the Deadpool sequel and working with James Cameron for T6.

He explains:

"I feel like there was so much more to be done with these characters. I mean, I wanted to make Deadpool 2. I was going to do that, until I wasn't. So, there was that, which took up about seven months of my time. But even then, David [Ellison, who has the rights to the Terminator franchise] and I were talking, like after Deadpool 2, it was going to be this [Terminator]."

As of now, John Wick and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch has taken over production for the Deadpool sequel, and filming is currently ongoing. Miller has no hard feelings though, and is actually relieved to be working on something else.

"There was a sense of relief in that I get to do something new versus Deadpool 2. I think it would've been a great movie, but it was also going to be a continuation of what we had done. This really gave me a chance to do something new."

When Miller first departed the project, it was said that he wanted to make the film way bigger than the first Deadpool movie, but the writers, as well as Ryan Reynolds, were said to have wanted to keep the sequel in the same vein of the first film.

I guess we'll just have to wait for Deadpool 2 to come out to see which decision was the right one.

Deadpool 2 is set to come out June 1, 2018.
