Deadpool: Bad Blood Creator Reveals Bad Guy Inspiration

A look at Deadpool's past is something any fan would love to have--and this is exactly what co-creator Rob Liefeld had for the pitch of Deadpool: Bad Blood.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Liefeld revealed that it was an idea that he had from before, and one that he was lucky to first explore in the history of Deadpool as a character.

"I had this idea for like a decade about telling a story about a figure from Deadpool's past, very far in his past, like middle school. A kid who knew Wade Wilson."

Given that it's the first time that Wade's past will be explored, Liefeld's biggest issue was finding the villain. Specifically, suggesting the name of the tragic figure in the story because he thought it would be an odd suggestion. The one he had in mind was Thumper--as in the adorable bunny in Bambi.

It's funny how things fell into place, as Liefeld recalls Marvel execs loving the name, even though Thumper would supposedly beat Deadpool somehow, putting some ironic spin to the name.

The story won't be the last we'd hear of Wade's origins, as Liefeld has already planned the sequel, dubbed Deadpool: Bad Blood Volume 2: Badder Blood, even before the first one ended. That's because he already penned the story to end on a cliffhanger with a sure vision for a sequel.

Deadpool: Bad Blood is set for release this week. It's written by Liefeld, Chad Bowers, and Chris Sims and illustrated by Liefeld and Romulo Fajardo.
