David Hasselhoff: GOTG Director James Gunn Is Trying To Get The Rights To Knight Rider

It's no mystery that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn loves the 80s, and a lot of fans absolutely loved it when David Hasselhoff made a surprise cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As it turns out, Hasselhoff has developed quite the friendship with Gunn, and the director is said to be planning a revival of classic 80s series Knight Rider.

Hasselhoff told TMZ:

"We're talking about doing a full blown TV series and we're working on the rights right now. It really came out of my relationship with James and the fact that he watched the show when he was 8 years old. It was crazy. I had this idea for a long time and James just jumped on it and all of a sudden out of his mouth was 'I'm trying to get the rights to do it."

There's no denying the impact that Knight Rider has had on pop culture. I'll admit I haven't even seen a minute of the show, but can tell you from the top of my head that David Hasselhoff is in it and he drives a smart car named KITT.

There have been several other attempts to reboot Knight Rider over the years, but none seem to have been successful. With James Gunn behind the wheel and Hasselhoff coming back, I'm interested to see just exactly what he has in mind for Knight Rider.

We don't have any release date for a Knight Rider revival, but you can catch Hasselhoff in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD Aug. 22.
