Todd Phillips Shares New BTS Photos From Joker Set

Joker now named as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and well on its way to hitting the $1B mark, its director Todd Phillips has given fans an inside look behind-the-scenes with several photos from the film's set. From shots of Joaquin Phoenix in between takes to a more in-depth look into Arthur Fleck's journal, the series of photos was also captioned with a message of gratitude from Phillips:

One of the most interesting Easter Eggs, however, may be seen in the third to the last photo of the set. It is a page from Fleck's journal with the word "Step" written all over it. Right below, there is a photo of a cat riding a woman and a cut out of a woman's lower body superimposed against that of a cat's head. Several fans have pointed out that this may be an homage to DC's beloved femme fatale, Catwoman.

On the note of this subtle nod, it remains to be seen if whether or not this film will actually make it into the DCEU's official timeline or if Phoenix will be reprising the role once more to face Robert Pattinson's version of the Dark Knight. The actor, however, has expressed how he won't be doing any sequels for the critical acclaim this first movie managed to receive but has also confided how he feels as though there is still much to explore with Arthur Fleck.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times' The Envelope, Phoenix had this to say: "Long before the release or before we had any idea if it would be successful, we talked about sequels. In the second or third week of shooing, I was like, 'Todd, can you just start working on a sequel? There's way too much to explore.' It was kind of in jest -- but not really."

Joker is now on its fourth weekend in cinemas and has grossed roughly over $900 million worldwide. As for the DCEU's upcoming films, its lineup includes Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020, and The Batman on June 25, 2021.
