The Avengers: Endgame was significantly cut down to run for only three hours and two minutes rather than its originally anticipated four-hour runtime. And with the release of its official artbook companion, fans may now get a glimpse at not only the conceptualization that came with the Infinity Saga’s final film but also some noteworthy scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor, like this major battle with Thanos’ army.
Prior to Thanos’ encounter with the Avengers in Infinity War, the Mad Titan had already conquered several worlds and what the Endgame team left out was a few scenes dedicated to showing aliens defending their homes.
A few pages of the art book is dedicated to people on an alien world with access to unique and one-of-a-kind technology they use to battle it out with Thanos and his forces before ultimately succumbing to the purple giant.
Fans, of course, have had their glimpse at the early stages of Thanos’ army in the Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War — The Art of the Movie. Speaking to Comicbook.com, Jeran Marantz described the joys and struggles of designing the Outriders.
“After looking at the source material, I wanted them to have a biomechanics quality to them,” he said. “There was concern that the Outriders may look too much like a Venom symbiote, and the challenge was to ensure they had a unique look. To achieve that, I decided to go biomechanical with them and incorporate the same shapes that are used in Thanos’ armor and Proxima Midnight’s and Corvus Glaive’s.”
He also went on to describe the initial struggle of how the Outriders seemed a little too similar to that of another famed character: Venom and how ultimately, all the changes led to something new in the MCU.
“The coolest thing about designing the Outriders was the assignment. This was the first time the Marvel Universe had an alien-creature army — there have been aliens but not an army of beasts. It was an incredible opportunity to do something unique,” he said.
Marvel's Avengers: Endgame - The Art of the Movie is now available on Amazon for $42.49.
