Just when you thought being named the highest-grossing R-rated film was its best distinction yet, Joker has once again managed to leave its mark in the form of an award. Just this weekend, the film's lenser Lawrence Sher was distinguished with a Golden Frog at Camerimage, a Polish film festival that aims to recognize some of the industry's best cinematography.
After having recently surpassed the $1B mark in the box office, the film starring Joaquin Phoenix is now being viewed as an award-season contender with the Camerimage as its first stop. In addition to Sher, the film's Director of Photography Cesar Charlone was also recognized with a Silver Frog for his work on The Two Popes.
According to Deadline, other noteworthy films that were awarded include Marcin Krzyształowicz's Mister T and Luke Lorentzen's Midnight Family.
Camerimage has been around for 27 years now and since its inception, has been a prestigious gathering for directors of photography and cinematographers alike. This year, it was held at the city of Toruń and also recognized legendary director Quentin Tarantino together with his lenser Robert Richarson for their work on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
As of this writing, Joker has grossed over a billion dollars in the box office worldwide. It is also the seventh-highest-grossing film of the year and is most noted to have become the first R-rated film to pass the billion-dollar mark in earnings.
