James Gunn Debunks Grandpa Steve Rogers Theory

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has finally weighed in on the latest theory surrounding Captain America and Peter Quill. For those of you who don't know, a Reddit thread recently floated around suggesting that Steve Rogers may actually be Peter Quill/Star Lord's biological grandfather.

The thread goes into detail about how Laura Haddock, who plays Quill's mother Meredith in the films, also makes an appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger in a crowd as an avid fan during some time in the 1940s. She noticeably catches Rogers' attention, which the thread speculates may have resulted in a one night stand, pregnancy, and birth of Meredith. Following this logic, this would mean Meredith being born around the 1940s, just in time for her to meet Ego sometime in the 1970s and have Peter Quill.

Sounds kind of cool, right? Sadly, the theory has caught Gunn's attention and he has officially shot it down via a tweet.

Sometimes Marvel fans just love finding these little connections to keep the universe even more intricately bound together, but hey, their attention to detail is just that good. Besides, wouldn't Infinity War have been all the more entertaining had this little tidbit been true and somehow revealed?

Marvel is set to open a new phase on May 1, 2020 with Black Widow. Some of its other announced titles include The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in the Fall of 2020, The Eternals on November 6, 2020, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12, 2021.
