Damon Lindelof's Watchmen Gets HBO Series Order, Set For 2019 Premiere

Watchmen is officially coming to the small screen. Damon Lindelof's highly anticipated pilot just got a series order to HBO and is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.

HBO made it official through a brief video announcing, "Nothing ever ends," along with the graphic novel's trademark smiley face. You can view the clip below.

Not much is known about the series just yet. However, Lindelof has previously confirmed that the new HBO show will not be a re-telling of the graphic novel's storyline. Instead, new characters will be introduced in the same world.

HBO's official description of the new series reads as follows:

"Set in an alternate history where 'superheroes' are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own."

Watchmen will star Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tom Mison, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Lily Rose Smith, Dylan Schombing, Adelaide Clemens, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, and Adelynn Spoon.

The new series will be written by Lindelof, who also serves as co-executive producer with pilot director Nicole Kassell. The show will be produced by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Watchmen is expected to begin production later this year. The premiere could be set in mid-2019.
