DC Universe's Stargirl Will Be Tonally Similar to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Buffy, According to Geoff Johns

Those that didn't like the "too cool for school" attitude of DC Universe's first Titans trailer will be happy to know that Stargirl will not follow that same tone. Granted, no one thinks the show is a bad one already, especially since obscure characters like Hawk and Dove are getting some love from the mainstream. Still, it's nice to know that the bubbly JSA character won't get too broody.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Geoff Johns revealed that the series' tone will be more in line with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is because the character will still be in high school and will face similar situations that the aforementioned heroes did.

"It's cool; it's going to take the Stars and STRIPE comic, the Justice Society comic, and merge it into one thing and tonally, it's Spider-Man: Homecoming and Buffy the Vampire Slayer along with the [comic] books."

Apparently, the series will also take a lot of inspiration from the Justice Society run by James Robinson. It's worth noting that Johns' acclaimed JSA run came after Robinson's, which is probably why he has so much respect for him. Knowing that the series will handle legacy bodes well for DC fans since the comics have almost-always done this well.

"We're bringing a lot of the legacy stuff into it, a lot of the stuff James Robinson did with the Justice Society. I love all of that, his JSA: The Golden Age series, launching the [1999 series] JSA… I've always wanted to do a series based on Stars and STRIPE, so it's really exciting."

Stargirl joins a long list of new DC projects that will be a part of the DC Universe streaming app. Titans aside, there is also an animated Harley Quinn series, Young Justice: Outsiders, Doom Patrol, and more on the way.
