DC Releases First Images of The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract Animated Film

DC has just released the first images of the long-awaited animated film, The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, and fans can spot some of the changes that have been made.

One photo of the entire team shows Nightwing is still the leader, but wearing the red colors of the comics' New 52 saga instead of his trademark blue.Warrior princess Starfire and chameleon Beast Boy look very similar to the comic book and past animated versions.Taking the place of Cyborg, who has since become a member of the Justice League, is the Blue Beetle.

Two other characters will be part of the team although they are not shown in the pic. Raven remains the conflicted mage who is pursued by her demonic father. Robin is the youngest member of the Bat family and presumably a protege of Nightwing. There are no indications yet as to whether his alter ego is Damian Wayne or Tim Drake.

Terra, the focal point of the story, wears the familiar earth-hued costume of the comics. Her hairstyle, though, is shorter and her facial expression hints that she has more attitude than charm. Deathstroke, the prime opponent of the Teen Titans, is also present in the images.

The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated film is based on the iconic 1984 Teen Titans comic book storyline that broke new ground. Marv Wolfman and George Perez created a very adult tale of a traitor within the ranks who did not experience redemption at the end. Trust was betrayed, hearts were broken, and there was no happy ending.

The gutsy approach also did not compromise by putting all the blame on the bad guy, the mercenary Deathstroke. The final panels made it clear that Terra was an angry, vindictive girl who chose to give in to her inner demons instead of fighting them.

The Collider gives us a rundown of the cast of characters and the actors who are voicing them: Terra (Christina Ricci), Deathstroke (Miguel Ferrer), Nightwing (Sean Maher), Starfire (Kari Wahlgren), Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin), Raven (Taissa Farmigan), Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo), and Robin (Stuart Allan). Helming the animated film is Sam Liu who has Justice League vs. Teen Titans and Batman: The Killing Joke under his belt.

The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract will be released after Justice League: Dark.

Read: Miguel Ferrer, who voiced Deathstroke in The Teen Titans: The Judas Contract animated film, passed away at the age of 61.
