Cyberpunk 2077 Developers Apologize for Using Transphobic Meme

While it won't get them ostracized, Cyberpunk 2077 developers CD Projekt Red did get into some fairly minor controversy. On Twitter, the developers responded to a fan who wanted to see more male characters in the game by saying "did you just assume their gender?" which didn't go too well with fans. It's a semi-well known meme that transphobic people use to make fun of those that are sensitive towards gender issues.

The people in CD Projekt Red decided to do the right thing and apologize for the joke, saying that they didn't mean to offend anyone. To be fair, there have been instances of liberal people using that meme so it's easy to see why they thought it would be okay. At the least, they knew they were wrong and did the right thing.

Considering the complexity that comes with the cyberpunk genre, Cyberpunk 2077 could be the perfect game to discuss these gender issues. Whether it actually does this in the story or if it's left to the player is still unknown. This is CD Projekt Red though so even if the topic isn't directly addressed, there will be a ton of complex side quests that players will enjoy.

As of this writing, Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a release date. It will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, we just don't know when.
