Cruise, Glyllenhall, and Reynolds Considered for Hal Jordan in Green Lantern Corps

Tom Cruise, Jake Glyllenhaal, and surprisingly enough, Ryan Reynolds are among the Hollywood A-listers who DC Entertianment is considering to play maverick Hal Jordan in its upcoming film, Green Lantern Corps.Other actors who are on the shortlist are Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer, and Joel McHale.

According to The Wrap, none of the actors has been approached yet, though, because the casting process is still in its preliminary phase.

Reynolds' inclusion does come as a surprise, given that his Green Lantern film in 2011 was a critical and commercial flop. However, the phenomenal success of his recent superhero movie, Deadpool, can move DC to give him a second look.

Many of these shortlisted actors had flirted with the idea or possibility of putting on a superhero costume. Cruise at one time was the top choce for Iron Man. Hammer had been signed on to play Batman in the aborted Justice League: Mortal. Cooper had been in the running for the titular Green Lantern part until Reynolds snagged the role.Glyllenhaal was almost a shoo-in for Spiderman when Tobey Maguire almost didn't return to reprise the part in the sequel.

David Goyer and Justin Rhodes will write the script for Green Lantern Corps. Executive producers are Goyer, Jon Berg, and DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns.
