Creator of Alita: Battle Angel Also Thought the Design was Weird at First

To those who didn't know, Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel was actually based on a manga called GUNNM/Battle Angel Alita. Original comic creator Yukito Kishiro comments on the live-action film, and says that he's been impressed with what he's seen so far.

Asper Anime News Network, Kishiro said:

"In the beginning, I was surprised because [Alita's] eyes are big… But when I saw what scenes there are, I stopped noticing it. When Alita is wet in the scene where she's exploring the spaceship sunk in the water, I started to think 'Cute!' I think everyone will come to like it soon."

Kishiro also goes on to say how much he loves the look of the new film, and says how it has improved on the work he had done back in the 90s. Kishiro comments:

"When I saw high-quality representations of what I wanted to express in the original manga and illustrations but couldn't, I thought, 'Thank you! This is a video I wanted to see 30 years ago!' and 'I'm jealous of the film representation!'"

This should put some fans of the original work at ease, as some people have been unsure of the aesthetics that the movie was pushing forward with. I, for one, thought that it was interesting how they tried to literally translate big anime eyes, and it's even cool how Alita comes up with that ‘war paint' in the trailers.

Alita: Battle Angel promises a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Jackie Earle Haley, and Ed Skrein. The main role of Alita is played by Rosa Salazar.
