Could Patrick Stewart Be Returning To Command A New Star Trek Reboot?

It looks like Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard may be returning to the Captain's chair on CBS.

There's been a lot of great Star Trek news today. CBS just recently announced a new deal to expand the Star Wars television programming together with Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman and his production outfit, Secret Hideout.

New details about the projects involved in this deal have emerged, and it looks like one of the rumored programs for CBS' Star Wars television expansion includes a Star Trek reboot series with the legendary Patrick Stewart as the show's main star.

Though The Hollywood Reporter says that the deal for Stewart's return to the Star Trek franchise is far from complete, others say that this new Star Trek reboot would have the iconic actor return as the fan-favorite captain, Jean-Luc Picard.

For those who aren't familiar with Stewart's history in the Star Trek franchise, Picard helped reinvigorate the franchise, leading the Enterprise throughout all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation which ran from 1987 to 1994. Picard also became a pivotal character in a few Star Trek movies including Star Trek Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), and Star Trek: Insurrection (2002).

Though we'd still have to wait for confirmation from CBS, if the rumors of Picard's return are proven to be true, they'd certainly add to the excitement of this new Star Trek television expansion.
