Could Mark Hamill’s Beardless Face Be Hinting At Luke’s Force Ghost In Star Wars: Episode IX?

Mark Hamill's had a pretty gorgeous beard on for years, whiskers that he's taken with him while playing a jaded Luke Skywalker living a life in isolation on the planet Ahch-To in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Now it looks like Hamill just recently shaved off his beard and it looks like fans have begun to take the beardless Star Wars legend as a sign of Luke's appearance in the third and final sequel trilogy installment, Star Wars: Episode IX.

Taking to Twitter, Hamill just recently shared a series of photos of his clean-shaven self together with a cane with a handle featuring the face of the Joker, a character the Star Wars legend has voiced in Batman: The Animated Series. A lot of fans were surprised by Hamill's beardless look – the Star Wars legend has had on some sort of facial hair, either a beard or goatee, for years.

With Star Wars: Episode IX set to begin filming this month, Hamill's beardless look has started sparking speculation that Luke might appear in the film as a Force Ghost. When Darth Vader died in Return of the Jedi, his Force ghost appearance showed him as himself before he decided to turn to the Dark Side of the Force, and fans got to see a clean-shaven Anakin Skywalker in the film.

Of course, while it's possible that Luke could be returning as a Force Ghost in Episode IX, Hamill's clean-shaven face could mean other things as well. Maybe the Star Wars legend is preparing for another project, or maybe his wife wants him whiskerless now that he's done with his work on Star Wars. Who knows.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres on December 20, 2019.
