Colin Trevorrow Was Fired From Star Wars: Episode IX Because Of Being “Difficult”

Earlier this week, Lucasfilm announced that it had decided to part ways with Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow. Like its separation with Han Solo directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the studio explained that it had decided to end its collaboration with the Jurassic World director because of creative differences.

Now, a new report by Vulture sheds some more light on the matter. According to the publication, a Hollywood executive has revealed that Trevorrow might have been fired because he was being "difficult" on the set of the sequel trilogy installment.

"During the making of Jurassic World, he focused a great deal of his creative energies on asserting his opinion. But because he had been personally hired by Spielberg, nobody could say, ‘You're fired.' Once that film went through the roof and he chose to do Henry, [Trevorrow] was unbearable. He had an egotistical point of view— and he was always asserting that.

When the reviews for Book of Henry came out, there was immediately conjecture that Kathy was going to dump him because they weren't thrilled with working with him anyway. He's a difficult guy. He's really, really, really confident. Let's call it that."

This year has been a hard year for Lucasfilm. The studio was already under a lot of scrutiny after it decided to let go of Lord and Miller back and June, and this new stint with Trevorrow offers no relief. Hopefully the studio will be able to find a suitable director to replace Trevorrow and continue work on Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres on May 24, 2019.
