Christopher Columbus To Direct Five Nights At Freddy's Movie

Five Nights at Freddy's continues to be one of the most popular horror games out right now, so when a film was announced fans were anxious about it. The games have plenty of lore in them and trying to fit some of that in a film will be hard to do. However, moviegoers will be happy to know that Christopher Columbus will write, direct, and produce the video game adaptation.

Blumhouse Productions Tweeted about the news, showing Hollywood chairs for Columbus and fan-favorite animatronic Freddy Fazbear. It's an inspired choice since Columbus has directed an unusual horror film in the past with Gremlins, so this could be a great decision in hindsight. With the poor reputation of video game films, having a name like Columbus has definitely raised the expectations fans have.

Created by Scott Cawthon, the Five Nights at Freddy's games were a YouTube highlight at one point, with various people recording their scared reactions when playing the game. Letting players control a security guard who is trying to survive several nights against a number of murderous animatronics, it still has a strong following to this day. While the sequels have been hit-and-miss, there's no doubt that the games are still scary.

No release date for the film has been revealed at this time.
