Phil Lord and Chris Miller had worked more than 50 percent of Solo: A Star Wars Story before they were fired by Lucasfilm, but as it turns out, they're still getting a credit for their work on the movie.
Speaking during the GLAS Animation Festival (via Variety), Lord and Miller shared:
"We were really proud of the many contributions we made to that film. In light of the creative differences, we elected to take an executive producer credit."
Lord and Miller were said to have been fired for trying to make the film lean too heavily on comedic improvisation, so much so that they were already messing with major plot points in the film. It's also worth noting that the script had been highly praised by everyone behind-the-scenes who read it, and it's also said to be Star Wars vet Lawrence Kasdan's last script in the franchise. No wonder the studio wanted to preserve his vision.
Lucasfilm firing Lord and Miller had actually put Solo's status in harm's way, with several rumors coming out that the movie was going to be terrible; not to mention it also made Lucasfilm look like they don't respect creative vision for their directors. However, with new director Ron Howard being active on social media, and the teasers looking amazing, it seems that Solo will actually end up pretty good.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is slated for a release on May 25.
