Chris Evans Says His Future As Marvel’s Captain America Isn’t Up To Him

With Chris Evans' Marvel contract ending up in 2019, many wonder what the Hollywood celebrity's future would be right after. Though Evans has already expressed his intention to retire from the franchise right after the second Avengers: Infinity War installment, fans are still hoping that Evans would change his mind and stay in the franchise.

Asking the Captain America star whether he'd really push through with the retirement or whether he'd be staying around for a bit longer in the Marvel franchise, Evans told Collider that the decision to stay on as Cap isn't really up to him.

"It's really not up to me. My contract is up. I'm not going to sit here and say, ‘No more.' I think Hugh Jackman has made 47 Wolverine movies, and they somehow keep getting better. It's a character I love, and it's a factory that really knows what they're doing. The system is sound, over there. They make great movies. If they weren't kicking out quality, I'd have a different opinion. But, everything Marvel does seems to be cinema gold. And like I said, I love the character. The only reason it would end is ‘cause my contract is up. After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I'd be open to it. I love the character. It's almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you're like, ‘I don't know if I'm ready to go.' It's tough thinking about not playing the guy."

Evans obviously can't say goodbye to his shield just yet – Marvel makes great comic book movies, and you'd be stupid to let something good get away so easily. Still, Evans has previously said that he'd want to grow out of the superhero scene and star in more films outside of Marvel, so we can't say for certain till Marvel confirms that they've renewed Evan's contract. Let's keep our eyes peeled.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018 while the second Infinity War installment hits cinemas on May 3, 2019.
