Chris Evans Confirms Retirement After Avengers 4

The news might break Marvel fans' hearts but it looks like Chris Evans is getting ready to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this years after wrapping up work on the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, Avengers 4.

Confirming in a larger profile appearing in The New York Times this morning, Chris told the publication that he'd be suiting up as Captain America this fall for the very last time for the reshoots for Avengers 4. After that he'll be saying goodbye to the outfit and to the role.

"You want to get off the train before they push you off," Evans said.

The Marvel star didn't seem anxious or concerned about his future outside of Marvel, telling the fans that he has everything he'll ever really need.

"I used to have thoughts of wanting to climb to the top of something, or wanting to be somebody," he said. "But when you get the thing that you think you want and then you wake up and realize that you still have pockets of sadness, and that your struggle will reinvent itself, you stop chasing after those things and it is liberating, because you realize that right here, right now, is exactly all I need."

While it seems like Evans is more than ready to let go of his role as Captain America, we're not so sure about the fanbase. Cap has been around for so long, we're sure hearts are going to break when they see Steve Rogers for the last time in Avengers 4. But then again, every story has an end, and it looks like Avengers 4 is the end of the line for Evans.

Avengers: Infinity War premieres April 27. Its sequel, Avengers 4, appears May 3, 2019.
