Cate Blanchett Signed Up For Thor: Ragnarok Just For The Opening Scene

A lot of talented actors have found themselves under the Marvel Studios net like Jeff Bridges, Hugo Weaving, and Michael Douglas; Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett will be making her debut in Thor: Ragnarok later this year, and it was revealed that Blanchett was immediately hooked to the project thanks to the opening scene.

Talking to E! News, Blanchett explains:

"That had me at ‘hello,' actually. I thought that was really exciting that they were prepared to destroy Thor's power in the first few minutes. So, yeah, it's a nice entrance."

Though the trailers have revealed that Mjolnir will definitely be destroyed in the movie, we didn't know just how early it was going to happen. It's definitely interesting to see how Hela will be introduced, and Cate Blanchett looks absolutely menacing for the part.

It's also worth noting that Blanchett is the fifth Lord of the Rings actor to make it into the MCU after Hugo Weaving, Martin Freeman, Lee Pace, and Andy Serkis. Give it enough time, and we may be seeing the likes of Elijah Wood or Sean Bean entering the picture. Does Ian McKellan's performance as Magneto count?

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

Thor: Ragnarok comes out Nov. 3.
