Castlavania Anime Series Very First Video Game Adaptation To Get “Certified Fresh” Rating

Video games usually have terrible big screen and small screen adaptations but it looks like Netflix's anime version of the horror-themed action-adventure Konami video game series Castlevania's doing pretty well.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Adi Shankar's Castle Vania has just broken the "bad videogame adaptation" curse after being certified fresh by the site for getting a critic score above the regular 60%. It's the very first video game adaptation to get a rating of 91 %, making it the very first videogame adaptation to do well with fans and critics.

While so many expected the World of Warcraft and Assassin's Creed film adaptations to be the first to beat the whole "bad video game movie adaptation" curse, it turns out that Netflix's Castlevania anime adapation was what the world needed. It's hard not to love a series with a Gothic tone and burning romance that echoes the original videogames.

Of course it's not a movie, but Shankar's Castlevania is certainly a step in the right direction.

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
