Call of Duty: Black Ops III Will Allow PC Players to Mod Content in 2016

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch has announced that PC players will be able to mod the game, via an update coming in 2016. This will include the ability to create custom game modes and maps, and even host dedicated game servers for modded content. Newcomers to game mods will be able to conveniently search for modded games with a new server browser.

Adding these options is a pretty big deal, as it marks a first for the massively popular first-person shooter franchise. PC game mods have proven that games like Skyrim and Half-Life 2 can have near-infinite replay value when the creativity of fans is unleashed. I think Call of Duty lovers will get a kick out of making their own maps and expanding Treyarch's staple game modes into new territories.

March 2016 is the projected window for a closed Alpha test for these new options, though the dates haven't been finalized. Stay tuned though, and we'll keep you updated.
