The Batman Set Photos Could Be a Nod to The Dark Knight's Iconic Joker Scene

Comic book references and easter eggs are no longer considered odd in the world of superhero films. In fact, when you think about it, a film without some nifty reference to its source material or other media just doesn't feel right and a little fan service can go a long way. Speaking of, DC's highly anticipated film TheBatman starring Robert Pattinson could be home to a massive easter egg and possibly a nod to one particular Batman film that came before it.

New set photos from the Matt Reeves-directed film show a location that is now deemed iconic amongst fans of the caped crusader, especially diehard fanatics of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy which was led by fan-favorite Christian Bale. The street in question is situated along LaSalle St. in Chicago where the project is currently being filmed and if it looks extremely familiar to you, that's because it's the same exact strip where Christian Bale's Batman threatened to run over Heath Ledger's Joker in one of The Dark Knight's most memorable moments.

Now, you may think that this could all be coincidental, taking into consideration, of course, the fact that LaSalle St. is a renowned filming location but I'm pretty positive it's a direct nod to the Nolan-verse and we should all be giddy about it. It also confirms that Reeves' vision of Gotham City is somewhat similar to Nolan's "realistic" approach which looked more inhabitable rather than it looking like a filming set. A lot of mystery still surrounds the film but with how hands-on the team is with every intricate detail, I think The Batman is going to kill it.

The Batman's release date has been pushed back to 2022.
