It's a happy Star Trek Day indeed as the third season for Star Trek: Discovery has finally premiered and it's taking fans to an entirely different world previously unexplored in the Trek universe. To the uninitiated, Season 3 sees Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green) who entered a wormhole during the previous season's stunning finale. Now stuck in a future set 900 years after the original Star Trek, she desperately searches for the Discover ship in a timeline where the Starfleet has been reduced into a mere relic. She'll be joined by David Ajala who plays a new character named Cleveland "Book Booker who will serve as her guide in the year 3188.

Now, reviews are already coming in from avid Trekkies and critics alike following Discovery's season premiere on CBS All Access, and the fan verdict has been pretty favorable so far. IGN describes the first episode titled "That Hope is You, Part 1" as a fun and exciting entry that gave the series the mission statement it so desperately needed. Fans all over social media have also expressed their delight after seeing the episode. Check out some of the reactions here:

Discovery is off to a promising yet intriguing start as it could tell new stories in the StarTrek universe without disrupting the franchise's current continuity. Also, Book's inclusion in the series is already paying huge dividends so far and with the kind of reception the character has been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if he somehow makes it to the present Discovery timeline, that, of course, is if Michael will be able to recover her ship and go back in time. Well, we're just getting started.
