2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is easily one of the best, if not the best Spider-Man films out there and it surely reinvigorated Sony's own Spidey franchise, giving them the opening they needed to expand their Marvel Universe. Looking back, Into the Spider-Verse was a huge gamble on the company's part considering it was just an animated film originally aimed towards children but boy, it totally exceeded expectations and now, we're set to get part 2.

One of the things that made it a success is the compelling story of Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin who was hell-bent on opening the portal to the Multiverse in order to bring back his wife and son. He also proved to be a formidable foe for Miles Morales who was making his Spidey debut. But apparently, Kingpin wasn't the true villain of the film, that's according to Sony and they have actual evidence to back this claim up.

In a hilarious Twitter post, the official handle of Into the Spider-Verse posted a side-by-side image of Kingpin and a random kid from Miles' school and according to producer Chris Miller, that kid is in fact the real villain of the flick. I'm not exactly sure why they came up with this one but I gotta say, it's wacky as heck. Check it out here:

We still know very little about the film's sequel other than the fact that Sony is bringing in Spider-Man 2099 and possibly the Japanese iteration of the character Supaidaman, but one thing's for sure, the film's creators will more than likely be allowed to have a little more freedom with Spider-Verse 2 which is always a good thing.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is slated for release in 2022.
