In what could be described as a shocking turn of events, sources are now claiming that The Dark Knight trilogy actor Christian Bale could make his triumphant return as Batman in the upcoming The Flash film. The DCEU flick, starring Ezra Miller is said to tap into the DC Multiverse ala Flashpoint which will also see the involvement of Michael Keaton who's playing the caped crusader for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The exciting report comes from Express which claims that Bale would be open to the idea of his Batman coming to the DCEU but under one condition — he needs to get a stamp of approval from the trilogy's director Christopher Nolan first. Nothing has been confirmed as of writing so of course, take everything with a grain of salt but don't be surprised if Andy Muschietti and his dedicated team pull out all the stops just to make The Flash an even bigger film than initially thought.

Bale's last appearance as Batman came in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises which ended his iconic 7-year run with the character. The British star also has the distinction of being the first actor to successfully pull off his own Batman trilogy, a feat that has yet to be replicated or even surpassed. He's stated in previous interviews that he has no desire to return to the Bat-franchise even though a supposed fourth sequel was originally planned. Well, you know what they say. You can never say never.

Considered by many as one of the best, if not the best live-action Batman, Bale's potential appearance in the film spell a major win in the DC world. The overall feel and dynamic will be interesting though as we all know that the "Nolanverse" isn't exactly like the DCEU which has more of a larger-than-life feel. In fact, it shares a more realistic approach as Todd Phillips' Joker, and not something that is necessarily faithful to its source material. Still, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, and Ben Affleck all appearing in one superhero flick in one ambitious crossover that would be enough to send us all into overdrive. Let's wait and see if the rumors end up becoming true!

The Flash hasn't begun production yet but it's expected to drop sometime in 2022.
